A heartfelt thank you for two years of Barbury Hill
It’s a huge milestone for any new company and we’re delighted to say that on Friday 14th October, Barbury Hill turned two! That’s two years of collaborating with small British farmers, bakers, makers and more to bring you delicious food and drink that you’re unlikely to find in supermarkets or on the high street and that deserves to be in the spotlight.
Two years of Barbury Hill
The world has changed a lot in the two years since we launched on 14th October 2020, and so have we. We started out with the dream of bringing difficult-to-source food and drink to homes across the UK, with a sole focus on small British producers dedicated to creating the ‘Best of British’. A summer of trying to track down the only cider producer that would quench my thirst led me to realise there was a need to bring the local producers and independent makers across the UK to a wider audience.
And that’s exactly what we’ve been doing ever since. Tracking down the best food and drink across the British Isles, then tasting and testing to ensure that everything we offer is a treat for you, or whoever you’re sending it to. We’ve lost track of the crumbly cheddars, sparkling English wines, fudgy brownies and craft beers we’ve tasted, all in the pursuit of the finest food and drink to feature on Barbury Hill. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it…!
It’s been quite the journey - from relaunching completely in April 2021 with a shiny new website, to receiving the support of Virgin StartUp this year - Barbury Hill has gone from strength to strength. Becoming a South East Finalist for the coveted FSB Awards Start-up of the Year was a proud moment, as was launching our very own range of Barbury Boxes. Bringing together the best of British in one package, these were created after listening to your feedback and have been a resounding success. We're thrilled to have celebrated our second birthday – a landmark milestone for any new company - and we've never been more grateful for your support and desire to support UK producers.
Thank you from our partner producers
We're lucky enough to see first-hand the impact your orders have on independent producers - from Dover to Dundee, Offa's Dyke to Orford. Every one of your orders supports brewers, bakers, makers, fishermen and farmers, as well as the local economy. Buying small has become something of a buzzword, but we’ve seen how buying less but better has direct benefits for the people who make the food and drink, and the environment.
A sustainable future
As we look forwards, we're truly excited about the future of Barbury Hill. We're focused on maintaining excellent service standards and growing our range of foodie gifts, whilst keeping quality at the heart of everything we do. As we grow, sustainability will remain one of our core values - we want to be known as a sustainable brand that not only supports small but is leading the way in reducing food waste, minimising single use plastics for greener packaging options and, of course, championing the best of British producers.
We’re also big on customer satisfaction. A Trustpilot rating of 4.9/5 is something we’re mighty proud of but this still isn’t enough for us and we’re determined to find more ways to ensure customers are not only entirely satisfied with us, but that they find buying and receiving foodie gifts a joy! From personalised, handwritten notes with every gift to information on the producers and products, we’re finding more and more ways of creating gifts that are personalised, and take your thought and love to family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and everyone who deserves a treat.
Once again, for all our customers who have been thinking big and supporting small, we could not be more grateful. We’re looking forward to continuing this journey with you and hope you’ll join us in raising a glass to many more food and drink moments to come.
