Everything you need for the perfect Afternoon Tea

With staycations on the rise this summer, our minds have turned to that classic British culinary delight, the Cream Tea. While our Cornish holiday seems a lifetime ago, we can still taste the rich decadence of the clotted cream and the sharply sweet tang of the jam. Luckily for us, with Barbury Hill’s newest producer, Brew & Bakes, we can recreate that memory in our own home. Their Cream Teas are the ideal accompaniment for a summer picnic, a gift for a tea-loving friend, or birthday treat for a loved one.

Who are Brew & Bakes?

Like so many of Barbury Hill’s small producers, Brew & Bakes grew from a personal search. Frustrated by the difficulty of planning and booking parties and get-togethers, founders Caz and Kels decided to take matters into their own hands. They set about creating an Afternoon Tea delivery service that would provide everything you need to host a quintessentially British celebration.

The perfect Cream Tea

Brew & Bakes’ Cream Tea Boxes take all the time and effort out of making the perfect afternoon tea for any celebration. Thoughtfully created to allow you to order for 1, 2, 3 or 4 people, the boxes include light buttery scones, Rodda’s clotted cream, Tiptree preserves and your choice of drinks. Complete with vintage-style paper plates, bottles of fresh milk, napkins and wooden cutlery; all you need to do is put the kettle on.

And if it’s a special occasion, can we suggest adding a bottle of fizz? A bottle of Langham Wine Estate’s award-winning Blanc de Blancs would add a pop of style to any celebratory tea.

A Cream Tea with a Twist

While there’ll always be a place in our heart for the Classic Cream Tea, we can’t resist the extravagance of a Brew & Bakes coconut scone with cherry jam or the zingy kick of a stem ginger scone liberally spread with lemon curd. And vegans can share the joy with a Vegan Cream Tea Box, including vegan scone, vegan spread, and soya milk. With four imaginative Cream Tea Boxes to choose from, why not mix things up and order a selection to delight your guests?

Classic English Afternoon Tea

For those looking for something even more decadent than a sumptuous cream tea box, why not try Brew & Bakes Classic English Afternoon Tea.  Perfect for entertaining a crowd these boxes cater for four and are filled to the brim with delicious sweet goodies.  We love the selection of freshly made finger sandwiches, homemade cake slices and brownies and of course the homemade scones with all the trimmings.  Whether treating others to a gift or spoiling friends, one thing is certain, there will be smiles all round.

Jam or cream first?

An age-old controversy, the question of adding jam or cream first is one that divides the nation. Personally, we’re in favour of a thick smudge of cream with a dollop of jam on top, though our Cornish friends might throw their hands up in horror. But the beauty of a Brew & Bakes Afternoon Tea Box is that it allows you to decide for yourself - you and your guests can dollop, spread and smear in whichever order you please - no judgement here!

So with sunny days ahead, and the prospect of summer holidays within our own shores, why not order an Afternoon Tea or Cream Tea Box or try their ready-made picnic box to be delivered to your holiday home, or surprise your guests with an afternoon tea fit for royalty? At Barbury Hill we’ll be creating our own holiday vibes in the garden, with more than a little help from our latest producer. So, who’s putting the kettle on?
